Bamboo Quest Haikus

Thick bamboo forest. — The bamboo forest at East Palisades Trail in Sandy Springs, Ga.

Weather turning nice

Want to get out of the house

Tired of the winter

Googling some new trails

I find path I’ve never hiked

Quest to see bamboo

Spring is in the air

But trees are not fully green

Still have winter brown

Fallen tree on trail.

Trees beginning to bloom in forest.

Hikers wearing masks

Clear the trail to keep distance

But they still say “Hi!”

Water everywhere

Cannot see it but hear it

Trickling or roaring

A still water river.

Tree in front of river.

As rapids draw near

I reach a fork in the path

I choose to go right

Looking down on rapids.

River rapids.

Trees blocking path.

The path appears blocked

You can go but cannot pass

Very Kafkaesque trail

Walking up the path

Every curve and dip looks same

Am I going right?

Rolling hills in forest.

Go uphill wheezing

No exercise all winter

Need to get in shape

I reach the forest

I thought there would be a sign

“Welcome to Bamboo!”

Alone but I also find

Lovers love bamboo
